At a sold-out Suncorp Stadium for the most highly anticipated fixture of the season so far, the undefeated Dolphins and Broncos meet in the NRL’s first ever Brisbane local derby.
Nine’s Wide World of Sports has exclusive access to the ground for this must-watch game and its rivalries galore. Master coach Wayne Bennett versus the up-and-coming Kevin Walters, the big-brother Broncos premiership powerhouse versus little-brother Dolphins in their first season, plus the marquee men of the Broncos up against the no-frills workmen of the Dolphins.
Nine, your home of rugby league in Queensland, will have all bases covered in this monumental clash with the all-maroon commentary lineup of Cameron Smith, Paul Vautin and Peter Psaltis at the ground, and host James Bracey joined by Johnathan Thurston, Brad Fittler and Danika Mason across every angle, with exclusive access to the dressing sheds and the players.
Queensland State of Origin coach and NRL on Nine expert, Billy Slater, says: “The Dolphins are playing with a lot of fight and spirit. With Wayne Bennett at the helm their unbeaten run is no fluke.
“The Broncos can turn it on like anyone. They’ve got so much spark in their side with their centres Kotoni Staggs and Herbie Farnworth, plus all these exciting young players who are only getting better. But they’ll need to bring a gritty style of play or the Dolphins will surprise them.
“It’s about who owns Brisbane. These two teams had this game circled a long time ago.”
This week the 2022 Grand Final rematch kicks off NRL Round 4 on Thursday Night Footy in the battle of Sydney’s West between the Eels and Panthers from 7.30pm AEDT.
Since losing to the Panthers in the Grand Final the Eels have been winless. They’re now desperate to get off the mark against the premiers who are fresh and ready to sink the claws in coming off the bye.
Can Mitchell Moses and Maika Sivo produce the elusive magic to put Eels back in the winners circle, or will Nathan Cleary and his mountain prove to be their kryptonite again?
In the third game of the round on Nine, Sunday Arvo Footy comes live from Newcastle for Knights v Raiders. After hiccups to start the season each side has one win and both need another victory to build up hopes for their fans this season.
Though ravaged by injury the Knights won’t cop any excuses playing for their first home win of the year against Ricky Stuart’s Raiders, who need to build momentum after a gutsy win over the Sharks.
The Eighth Immortal and Knights hero, Andrew Johns, will be a commentator at this game along with Knights NRLW premiership-winning captain Millie Boyle.
