Nine Announces New Kids Show SMASHDOWN! in Production
SMASHHDOWN!, Nine’s energetic new sports game show for children, has commenced production at the network’s Mt Coot-tha studios in Brisbane.
The program is scheduled to launch nationally later in 2018 on 9Go! and 9Now. Host Andy Sunderland will be joined by sporty kid-competitors from across the country on a journey to find Australia’s number one junior all-rounder, with viewers receiving an all-access pass to the most interactive sports venue on the planet, all-star-athlete cameos, off-the-wall challenges and sports trivia.
Fresh, fun and faster than Usain Bolt, SMASHHDOWN! is like a Japanese game show joining forces with a video arcade. With more twists than the Monaco Grand Prix circuit, our kids must be on their toes if they want to win this.
Sunderland, 27, a favourite on The Block in 2016 who is currently keeping youngsters giggling on Kids’ WB, is ready to bring his larrikin charm and cheeky persona to front the SMASHHDOWN! team.
He said: “I have been in the Channel Nine family for a while now and I am stoked to be able to join this program as host. By trade I am a primary school sports teacher, so I am ready to jump into the SMASHHDOWN! Stadium and find the ultimate sporty all-rounder – I can’t wait to see who our first champion is.”
Sunderland will lead a talented team of comedy characters and real-life sports stars in the SMASHHDOWN! Stadium, including players, coaches, commentators and the SMASHH Test Dummy, who isn’t afraid to put his body on the line in the name of sport.
Executive Producer, Geoff Cooper, said: “SMASHHDOWN! is designed as a lean-forward, interactive game show for kids to play along at home, and we are delighted to locally create yet another national children’s television program from our studios here at Nine Queensland.”
