Australians Tune In Across-Platform To See King Judah Crowned
Nine’s The Voice has retained its place as Australia’s biggest light entertainment format with more than two million Australians tuning in to see Team Delta’s Judah “King Judah” Kelly crowned the winner of the 2017 season last night.
The ratings result caps off another strong year for The Voice, with audiences up 7 per cent to 1.91 million for the Grand Finale winner announcement and audiences tuning in across a variety of platforms and in record numbers to vote for Judah as the winner.
In the wake of last night’s grand finale, both winner Judah Kelly’s single ‘Count on Me’ and runner up Hoseah Partsch’s single ‘Paper Planes’ have debuted strongly in the Australian iTunes charts, taking out No.1 and No.3 respectively.
The 2017 season of The Voice continued to draw strong national audience figures, with an average audience of 1.947 million across overnight, consolidated, encore and 9Now viewing.
The Voice app this season also drew record engagement, with almost 1.8 million downloads of the Official Voice App, 4.45 million live in-app interactions across the series, and overall voting numbers for the series almost double last year’s.
Across Nine’s digital properties, video views spiked on the back of The Voice as fans tuned in to watch individual performances, with more than 3 million short-form video views on its various websites.
The program has also been popular across social media, with more than 350,000 tweets on #TheVoiceAU Twitter hashtag
Nine.com.au’s celebrity news website, The Fix, saw some of its most read stories for May and June around coverage of the exchanges between coaches Boy George and Seal, and also Boy George’s decision to buy 17-year-old contestant Heath Milner a ticket to Nashville.
Channel Nine’s Head of Content Production, and Development, Adrian Swift, said: “The reality is that in 2017 The Voice is a cross-platform experience and this season, more than any other, we have geared the show to work across our various touchpoints and digital properties.
“We are heartened to see the way that Australia has fallen in love with King Judah and sought to engage with the show across a number of platforms.”
