Dive deep into the coldest regions on earth
Eleven years after Frozen Planet’s unprecedented look into life at the North and South Pole, Frozen Planet II returns to the Arctic and Antarctic on Tuesday, April 4, at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Presented by Sir David Attenborough, this documentary series observes the amazing species that thrive in these freezing frontiers, and captures the wildlife dramas that play out in the coldest parts of Earth in our high mountains, frozen deserts, snowbound forests, and ice-cold oceans.
The Arctic and Antarctic are the last true wilderness regions, places so desolate and unforgiving that only a heroic cast of animals can exist there. From polar bears to penguins, Siberian tigers to snow monkeys, each species must overcome unique challenges to survive their extreme environments.
As temperatures continue to rise through global warming, parts of our frozen planet are vanishing before our eyes. Frozen Planet II reveals the true impact on both wildlife and humans, and speaks to scientists who have dedicated their lives to understanding these climate changes, and what they mean for the world.
Filmed in ultra-high definition, the cameras capture new animal behaviours, displays of intimacy and sensational natural spectacles, for the very first time. This six-part series is a chance to experience the wonder of our planet’s frozen realms as they stand on the brink of major change. All of the frozen habitats share one thing in common – the threat posed by today’s climate change.
Frozen Planet II is made by BBC Studios’ world-renowned Natural History Unit, co-produced by BBC America, the open University, Migu Video, ZDF and France Televisions.
