Wide World of Sports: Sam McClure returns to 3AW
Sam McClure was today announced as the inaugural host of 3AW’s Wide World of Sports radio program, set to debut Wednesday, November 2 at 6.00pm.
McClure, who is well known to the 3AW audience, will be joined by a rotating roster of superstar footy and sport commentators, with details to be announced in the coming weeks.
It’s a return home for Sam, who began his media career at 3AW as a broadcasting assistant in 2011, before becoming a news reporter and regular contributor to the Sportsday program.
Stephen Beers, 3AW Station Manager, said: “We are excited to have Sam join us back at 3AW where his career started as we look forward to a new era of sports coverage with Wide World of Sports. We also want to thank Gerard Healy for his 30-year contribution as co-host of Sportsday.”
Sam McClure said: “I grew up with 3AW being the only station my family would listen to. When I first started working there I was a teenager buying coffees for hosts at outside broadcasts. To be back, in my 30s, hosting Wide World of Sports is very special.”
The launch of the program will usher in a new era in sport with local versions of the Wide World of Sports radio program airing nationally across 2GB, 3AW, 4BC and 6PR.
Ash Earnshaw, Nine’s Director of Sales, Total Audio, said: “The extension of the Wide World of Sports superbrand offers an exciting opportunity for marketers to reach this highly targeted and engaged demographic of listeners across the country. It will be strengthened by the legendary Wide World of Sports television properties and allows our team to sell TV and audio together.”
Mark Levy will continue to host the program on 2GB while Peter Psaltis remains as host in Brisbane. A host for Perth will be announced soon.
